Programs and Accomplishments

The mission of the GTCTA: To foster opportunities so all people in the seven county metropolitan areas may enjoy tennis as a lifetime sport!

GTCTA PROGRAMS and ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Recreational Coach Workshops
    Low-cost educational trainings led by USTA National Trainers for grass-roots community tennis instructors, coaches and volunteers. Two workshops are conducted annually.
    Since 2001, fourteen Recreational Coach Workshops have been hosted in communities of Spring Lake Park, Bloomington, Fridley, Coon Rapids, Oakdale, West St. Paul, and Eagan. St. Louis Park, St. Paul, Arden Hills, Brooklyn Center and Minneapolis for over 800 grassroots instructors.
  • GTCTA Indoor Tennis Scholarship
    Provides scholarships for youth age 10 through 17 so they may transition from a seasonal player to play year round. Annual deadline is November 1.
    Since 2003, over 60 youth have been awarded funding totaling $31,000 for the GTCTA Indoor Tennis Scholarship.
  • GTCTA Program Grant
    To aid new or existing programs that offer low cost or free tennis instruction or supervised play for youth or adults. Applications may be submitted year-round.
    Program grants totaling $14,000 have been awarded to St. Paul Urban Youth Tennis, the City of Maple Grove, the Multicultural Tennis and Tutoring Program, the Mairs Family Memorial Tournaments, the Minnesota Girl's State High School Banquets, the North Suburban High School Tournaments and to the USTA Northern for the annual Community Tennis Rally and for Community Outreach programs.
  • www.gtctatennis.org: A website to promote tennis opportunities in the seven county metropolitan area.
  • Corporate World Team Tennis Leagues
    Community based programs to provide corporations the opportunity to tap into the fun, fit, competitive, social and entertaining spirit that comes from being part of a team. Season runs from mid-June through the end of August and local winner advances to national event.
    The league grew from 6 teams with 65 players in 2005 to 19 teams with 195 players in 2007.
  • Community Events Sponsor
    Sponsor of USTA Northern community outreach events for youth, adults and seniors. Events are conducted year-round.
    Annually sponsored events include Welcome Back to Tennis, the Community Tennis Rally, the Women's $50,000 Professional Tournament Community events and Minnesota State High School Tennis Banquets.
